OUR ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT

Updated: Jun 20, 2024

ECO-CONSCIOUS PRODUCTION

We only work with providers who share our ecological values. We work with a GOTS (The Global Organic Textile Standard) certified textile distributer in the Netherlands (www.ecologicaltextiles.com). We source our plants from ‘Het Blauwe Huis’ – an independent farm in the Netherlands, who use organic and biodynamic farming methods (www.hetblauwehuis.nl). As part of these methods, Het Blauwe Huis uses a diversity of plant varieties to enrich the air and soil. They constantly rotate their crops on the land so that the soil provides different nutrients and receives different types of green fertilisation. This carefully crafted cultivation plan is essential to the maintenance of healthy soil, so that future generations can continue to reap the benefits. Resident agricultural engineer at Het Blauwe Huis, Jan Kees (or ‘Juan Carlos’ as we call him!), is an expert in plant quality. He spent many years of his life working and learning about biodynamic agricultural practices in Colombia.

We make our dyes from organic food waste that we collect from local restaurants in Amsterdam. Many thanks to our close friends at Bacalar @bacalar.amsterdam ! Seeds, skin, roots, leaves and flowers provide a rich abundance of colour tones for our textiles. Experimentation with these different materials has led us to discover all kinds of unexpected hues – beautiful, earthy and miraculous. It is not precise colour tones that we seek to master, rather we enjoy letting nature take her lead. This means there is no such thing as a failed experiment, just a plurality of colour tones. Currently, we use water from the tap for textile dying, but our ambition is to start to collect rainwater for this purpose.

ECO-CONSCIOUS CREATIVITY

We also aim to contribute to more ecological ways of thinking and doing in daily life through our creative work. We recognise your body as a sacred territory – an integral part of the living world. Our creations encourage you train your intuition, reclaim sovereignty over your time for self-care, and live in greater synchronisation with your bodily rhythms.

Our creations also encourage you to cultivate an active and meaningful spiritual connection with the living world by opening your senses to the wisdom of plants. In each of our designs, we include plants with medicinal properties that help alleviate physical aches and pains. We like to think of this as a non-verbal communication channel between the body and the plant world that helps awaken our healing capacities. We hope that our creative work elevates an awareness of our place within a beautiful and interconnected web of life.
